Verner Panton 100th Anniversary
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Danish architect and designer Verner Panton. He transformed the language of 20th-century design. Louis Poulsen and &Tradition have released special editions of Verner Panton classic designs.
Verner Panton (1926 – 1998) is known worldwide for his avant-garde work and prolific experimentation with materials, shapes, and most importantly – colour. Throughout his career, he would advocate that colour had both a central meaning and function in design and that it should be used as a tool to enhance everyday life.
Panthella Original - Louis Poulsen
The 1970’s colours
The first Panthella lamp Verner Panton designed was introduced in 1971 in five vibrant colours including chrome stand.
A bold expression using bold materials, making the design truly stand out as an innovative and playful object like never before seen in his time.
Designed in 1971, Panthella stands out as one of Verner Panton’s design icons with its unique expression where both the stand and the shade served as a reflector, thanks to the organic shapes that are characteristic of the Danish designer.
Flowerpot Family - &Tradition
Three new colourways refresh the iconic Flowerpot lamp in celebration of Verner Panton’s 100th birthday. Available across a selection of the Flowerpot designs, the new colourways capture the era in which the iconic lamp was originally introduced.
First designed in 1968, Verner Panton’s Flowerpot lamp is an enduring classic: a playful yet minimal product that remains among the most iconic works of postwar Danish design and originates from the desire to craft pieces that trigger feelings rather than serve as mere functional objects.
“The bright, shiny enamel, and the coloured cable had never been seen in lighting fixtures before.” - Marianne Panton (Verner Panton Wife)
Wire Stool - &Tradition
His iconic and instantly recognisable work transcends both time and borders, having gained limitless fame and attention. Despite this, there are still discoveries to be made within his broad legacy, the hidden masterpieces like the Wire Stool, only now having been made available by &Tradition recently.
“We quite often had a lot of guests in our house. Sometimes – even though this was a designers’ household – we ran out of chairs. So, we needed additional seating for these occasions. Seating that could easily be stored without requiring a lot of space. One day, when we spoke about this issue, Verner remembered a stool he had designed a couple of years prior. A very simple piece, made from wire. We found this was just what we need and so we decided to commission a number of these stools for our home and studio in Basel, and for the summer house in Denmark.” - Marianne Panton (Verner Panton Wife)
Topan Pendant
Designed in 1959, the Topan pendant was Panton's second ever design and his first mass produced lamp – followed later by the Flowerpot. An iconic design with a sculptural silhouette, the spherical form lends a sense of distinction when placed alone or in clusters, offering a focused light to dining rooms, kitchen counters and hallways alike.
Topan Table & Floor Lamp
Originally designed in 1959 as a pendant lamp, the Topan floor and table lamps bring a new perspective to one of Panton’s most recognisable forms. Transforming the spherical Topan pendant into a sculptural, freestanding light, the design plays with perception, transparency, and levity
Verner Panton designed so many classics that are now permanent fixtures in design museums and collections around the world, celebrated not only for their striking forms and bold use of colour, but for the way they challenged conventions and redefined how design could shape everyday life. His work continues to inspire designers and captivate audiences, reminding us that imagination, experimentation, and courage are at the heart of truly timeless design.
