Women in Design

On Wednesday 19th November, Catalog Interiors was delighted
to welcome more than 60 women from across the creative industry for an evening
of conversation, connection and inspiration. Our studio hosted a panel talk
featuring three remarkable designers, each of whom began their journey at
Catalog before going on to establish their own successful ventures.

Emily Smoor, Fantoush Design

First, we introduced Emily Smoor, principal & founder at Fantoush Design

Emily Smoor founded Fantoush in 2011 as an upholstery studio, a sister company to a property development company which over time merged and evolved to become the interior design studio it is today.

Fantoush style is described as eclectic, Fantoush love to combine pieces from
different periods and countries to create a unique story for every room; mixing
old and new to produce timeless design.

Emily spoke about the importance of storytelling through interiors, and how
blending eras and influences keeps her work continually evolving.

Jodie Shepherd, Six

Completing our panel was Jodie Shepherd, Design Director at Six

With a family deeply rooted in property, design has always felt instinctive to Jodie. She began her career at Catalog, where she built a strong foundation in luxury interiors and client relations before spending two years in London, gaining experience with high-end clients, prestigious projects and emerging design trends.

Now Design Director at SIX, the multidisciplinary property development company she runs alongside her brother Ritchie, Jodie brings together creative direction and commercial understanding across interiors and property staging to create spaces that feel considered, functional and beautifully executed.

Throughout the discussion, we explored the importance of nurturing strong client relationships, keeping ideas fresh, and the ever-evolving process of sourcing furniture, lighting and fabrics. The panel also reflected on working within Edinburgh and Scotland’s design landscape compared with the USA and London, offering valuable insight into how geography and culture shape our creative approach. We rounded off the night with a chat about dream projects and favourite design trends an inspiring reminder of the passion, ambition and talent within our creative community.

After the panel concluded, guests enjoyed time to mingle and connect over a glass of fizz and a selection of snacks. The room was full of conversations, new introductions, shared experiences and creative ideas sparking across the crowd, which made for a lively and uplifting end to the evening.

A heartfelt thank you to all our event sponsors for helping make the evening possible. We look forward to hosting many more conversations that continue to inspire and connect our industry.
